YT: Uh. [I'm not sure, so I scramble to look up "Slovenian Cuisine" on Wikipedia, and come up with this]. It says right here that... "There is no such thing as Slovenian cuisine..."
EC: Exactly.

Who doesn't like Goulash?
Ingredients
* 3 Tablespoons vegetable oil
* 2 pounds beef stew meat
* 1 can beef broth
* 1 cup onion, chopped
* 2 Tablespoons tomato paste
* 2 Tablespoons paprika
* ½ teaspoon salt
* ¼ teaspoon black pepper
* ⅓ cup water
* 3 Tablespoons flour
* 2 cups cooked egg noodles
To make:
1. In a large pot, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the beef and cook until sides are browned.
2. Add beef broth, onion, tomato paste, paprika, salt, and pepper.
3. In a bowl, mix the water and flour, stirring to remove lumps. Stir the flour mixture into the pot with a wooden spoon.
4. Cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 1 to 1½ hours, or until meat is tender; stir occasionally.
5. Serve over hot noodles.
Makes 5 to 6 servings.

Anything Austrian or Hungarian would probably be Slovenian enough for your purposes right now.
There is also a pizzeria in the capital of Slovenia that makes more than a hundred varieties - though somehow that might not prove your point as well as the goulash...
A friend of mine is of the same opinion. The rest of the world isn't forming American Footbal teams, why is the US pretending to care about (the real) football?

No Slovenian recipes. All I know about Slovenia, is this is it's first time on its own in the World Cup since it used to be a part of the nation formally known as starts with Cz, which I can't spell.

Goulash is eaten all over eastern Europe, actually. I would presume that includes Slovenia, but I'm only really familiar with SloVAKian cuisine.
Which includes such gems as piroghi (sp), of which there is probably a Slovenian version (It's another dish eaten all over Eastern Europe).
Piroghi are small pastries with a variety of fillings...the Slovakian versions include sauerkraut, mashed potato, cottage cheese and the amazingly good prune (Not sarcastic...one would NOT think prune pastries were good).
I'd also wonder if they have a version of bibulki, the Slovakian way of disposing of stale bread...small balls of baked dough covered in enough poppy seeds to make you fail a drug test.
And, of course, there's sauerkraut mushroom soup.
But all that's Slovakian. I dunno how much would cross over into Slovenia.

I'm not sure about food, but a friend of mine got married in a castle in Slovenia. Apparently for a bargain fairy tale wedding Slovenia is the place to go.
It is gorgeous too.
Yeah, Slovenia is pretty much a fairy-tale place with lovely lakes, green rolling hills, affordable wonderful skiing, and the cream slice from heaven. They have PLENTY so we can take soccer.
So I just realised I mixed up Slovenia and Slovakia. I'm so ashamed. *Skulks off to look for Atlas* :(

There were a bunch of Slovenian exchange students at my kids' school earlier this year and we all watched a big presentation about the country and its culture. It seems pretty awesome, actually, and I'd like to go.
Re: rooting for USA world cup soccer. We seem to be damned if we do or don't. Ignore the biggest sports event in the world right now? We are insular, as usual. Cheer for the team? How dare we!
I was hoping Slovenia would win because my mom is Slovenian. As for cuisine they have a really fabulous rolled nut bread called potica. You can find plenty of recipes on the web for it. But they also eat "foal in sauce." Yes, it's just what you think it is.
I seem to remember fabulous pancakes filled with grated dark chocolate, chopped walnuts and poppy seeds...
I couldn't give a hoot about the footie, but I work in an office smitten by a massive power cut yesterday afternoon; disconsolate blokes gathered on the staircase to lament together like an opera chorus...
