Write Your @$$ Off Weekend--Commencing!
I know some people are already writing today--others (YT included) will be writing tomorrow, others Sunday, others Monday.
I won't be logging in again this weekend--I have very, very busy writing plans!--but leave me progress reports with a link to your blog (if you have one) either here in the comments or emailed to moonratty@gmail.com and I'll catalog all the "winners" on Tuesday. Consider it charity to me if you leave a comment--I'll be much happier if I know other people benefited from our crazy project :)
Happy writing!

Tomorrow is my day.
Something came up on Sunday when I'd originally scheduled myself (isn't that always the way) but my classes for today were miraculously cancelled! So I'll be writing my @ss off today. Wish me luck!
Sandra here,
I started today at 5am. So far I've written at the memoir, researched impressionism because I want my nature essays to read more like those paintings look ("re-create the sensation in the eye that views the subject, rather than recreating the subject"), the yearning to write another novel once again niggled at me and this time instead of holding up crossed fingers and cringing, I made notes, I've e-mailed a writer friend about our mutual rejections, wrote some more on the memoir, took the dog out, fed myself and the dog, watched the Grey's Anatomy that I taped last night, noticed that the redbuds in my yard are blooming and made a Facebook comment about it, and will now either write more about my mother or watch The Mentalist.
Every Saturday is write your @ss off day for me. I will also be writing this Sunday evening as everyone I know will be watching the big game and I will have nothing else to do. Go Colts, but I will be reading the score online later. Best of luck to all of us! I'm aiming to finish 2 new chapters (20 pages of a middle grade work).
I'm in! I'm in! Today is my day to try to pull of the serial short story I've agreed to write for a magazine. Not familiar with serials? Join the club! You can find a description on my oh-so-humble blog inthedreamstate.blogspot.com
I'm 1000 words in so far today. Thanks for giving my @ss the push it needed!
Good luck this weekend, everyone!
I'm writing tomorrow (and Sunday), and I'm allowing readers to post their WYAO goals on my blog: http://chloeneill.blogspot.com
Thanks for a great idea!
Posted this to the writing group I help Admin, Dreaming In Ink Writers Workshop. DII is here: http://www.dreaminginink.com/
I'm starting a little late today, but I'm going to try for 8 hours anyway, especially since I've been unable to write for days now because of a missing filling (pain does not mix with writing). My journal is here: http://domynoe.livejournal.com/
My WY@OD has been consumed by Notebook Mining - going through old notebooks and sucking out drafts and snippets for later before I toss them in the basement/trash (some days it's hard to tell the difference). It's a job that I'd put off, and forgotten about.
If you had asked me yesterday how much potentially usable text I expected to find in there I would have guessed a lot less than what I'm actually finding and it's making me feel pretty good about myself. Not only does my Muse write better than I thought she does, but with my "Slush Snippets" wiki filling up nicely, I won't have to pull every start out of my head before I can write. That is a relief all by itself.
I'm all set for WY@OW and I just realized that Superbowl Sunday will be the perfect day to write...my husband is going to a Superbowl party and my son is away too! Write on....
It's sort of like the NaNo spirit is being crammed into one day tomorrow here. People are trying to decide what food they're bringing over and when they're coming. Unfortunately some can't come :( But! I'm sure it'll be super fun no matter what - and I'm going to try for pictures! I'll link when I post them.
I want to participate, but have my writer's group Sunday. I'll spend tomorrow preparing. Too bad for the day job today and Monday. Maybe I'll write my ass off next weekend instead.
Today is my day - it's been great so far. I'm writing a speech for a conference and the 'kick' of this thing has helped me focus.
Thank you, Ms. EA and good luck all.
Today's kind of my day, but it might also be Sunday and a little of Saturday. Still figuring out what all needs to be done and when's the best time to do each thing.
My poor blog has been suffering a severe drought these days as I've been concentrating more on writing for (possibly, sometime, in the future) money. You know, that kind of thing that comes with traditional publication (sometimes).
Score for me that furloughs forced the campus to close down today! I get to write now rather than wait for Sunday! Teehee!
I'm planning on Sunday. I don't watch sports so it will be the perfect time for no interruptions from the world.
I'm trying to enlist as many of my followers as well.

I'm excited!
Tomorrow for me.
So today, it's Chores Time — polishing ass in preparation etc.
I'm not signing up officially, but I am doing it today and tomorrow! And even Monday as my agent wants this by Wed. so he can read it before I hand it off to my editor. No time for updates! Must get back to writing my @$$ off! Thanks for the inspiration!
I did mine today. I had intended to work on my new novel but instead wrote the entire synopsis for the one I want to query (you know, as soon as its query letter and synopsis are ready).
I'm thrilled with it! Thanks for the kick in the @$$ I so needed. :)
The husband will be off fighting fires tomorrow and the offspring will be overnighting with their cousins wreaking vengeance upon the unsuspecting other half of their family SO I will be alone on tomorrow and will use that as my designated day.
Good luck to all!
I just decided to throw in my hat (that's the term, right?), after making the decision to restart my WIP with a new MC, and a tighter concept. Now that I'm good and terrified, I figured it'd be a good time to consciously focus. You know, so I don't run screaming into the night and all...
I'm new to your blog. Love it. I officially signed up for 2/6 but will probably have to split between 2/6 and 2/7 (my birthday! woot!). Day job. 5 kids. It's hard to take time for my writing, but if I tell myself that Moon Rat will kick my @ss if I don't, I think I can glean the 8 hours this weekend. Will report back. Ma'am!
Saturday 9am
Ass in seat, white tux & Dave Brubeck on, all distracting creatures within a 2 mile radius slain.
Wish me luck, world. I aim to grind my buttocks to a fine powder...
Waiting for tomorrow to WMAO! I definitely need the motivation and have even made myself a little plan on what needs to be done. All I need to figure out now is how to do an approximate word count as I write first drafts in longhand. Excited about getting started!
I've just finished writing my arse off! Those buns are Hugh Jackman tight now.
The weather is weird this weekend - an hour away from here has a foot and a half of snow, but I've got nothing.
I will be writing, but probably not eight hours uninterrupted. I've got an hour so far, more to come.
I wish the weekend writing thing worked for my schedule. Alas, I'll be schlepping kids to sports. Again.
I do plan to write my @ss off on Mon - Fri of next week in a crazed attempt to get this ms finished before President's Day weekend. Woo?
@ exploringeliza: I'm doing the same...needless to say but my WIP is now extremely daunting but I'm trying not to let my Muse intimidate me.
I have a WIP that I mean to finish TODAY!!
(There, I put it in writing.)
Shelley
Writing my ass off today here in Atlanta! I came to my local library to write 10 pages of the 3rd draft of my YA WIP about a struggling artist... only to find that there's an art show going on at the library right now! Kinda cool.
Better late than never. I signed up to write my @ss off from 11am to 7pm today and instead slept my @ss off until 11:30 then ran my teenage son around town. But it's 1:30ish and I'm starting now. I'm splitting the eight hours between today and tomorrow, so one butt cheek off Saturday and one Sunday. What else can I do tomorrow when everyone else I know is watching the big game. Go, eh? Who's playing? Anyway ... starting off with a blog post @ Doom-Eager (my blog about the rapture and misery of writing (http://doom-eager.blogspot.com) and then working on my YA manuscript. I'm about 28,000 words in (130 pages or so) and looking to knock out 2,000 words this weekend. Wish me luck!
I took yesterday (Friday) as my day. Though I spent all day trying, I don't think I actually had eight hours of work. Sigh. Too many interruptions from my preschooler. But I did stay off the internet that whole time.
Happily, I will say this morning I finally finished the scene I'd been struggling through.
I'm writing the first draft of my second novel. I put in almost 3 hours, and I have to stop now, but I wrote 1,014 words. Oh, yes. I'm counting.
I will be back tomorrow. Thanks!

Jaleh- WTG! I hate having trouble over a certain scene because I'm a very linear writer and usually can't move past it.
I'm about to start version XIV of my synopsis. Seriously.
I'm writing my @ss off today and Monday, but all I did most of the morning was make playlists for: yoga, writing [instrumental], writing [upbeat]. I suck. But the rest of my writing time about 4 hours went to re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-revising my synopsis for the SCBWI South Coast Winery Conference
[http://www.scbwisocal.org/events/oc_spring_retreat.html]
that I am sending a submission to-deadline Monday. GULP! And I decided to try and get my head out of synopsisland and back into writing the three final scenes of my WIP by going to see NINE [again] this afternoon. I have a crush on Daniel Day Lewis.
http://laurasmagicday.livejournal.com/
I love this idea. I wish there were more people in my area to participate with. It was cool to have the hashtag on twitter though.
I completed the full eight hours and am going to keep working. Maybe slip a movie in there to refresh first.
I completed a new blog post, added 3114 new words to my WIP leaving me with only one scene to write that connects the story to the ending that is already written. Then there will just be the few tie up scenes and It'll be time to edit. (Does anyone else feel sad when they finish writing a ms?)
My blog is here:
http://analaskangirl.blogspot.com/
Good luck everyone!
slight change of plan here, I was going to do WY@OD today...but hafta settle for tomorrow instead. Should be nice and quiet 'cause of the super bowl thingy!
I wrote for 12 hours today. Twelve. (exhale)
Going for tomorrow! *fingers crossed*
About an hour yesterday and five more today. My YA WIP is no longer IP. I think. Not sure if it's ending in the right place. Have to sleep on it.
I think I'll write a poem for fun now. Or do an online jigsaw puzzle. Maybe both.
I'll be getting up in six or seven hours to start. It's my birthday gift to myself. Yay!
Hi all - put in 6 hours yesterday (Saturday here in Australia) and a couple more today to make up the full 8. Currently revising a manuscript but in the middle, where it can be tough to keep motivated, so WYAOD was a great incentive to really get stuck in. Cheers to Moonrat and everyone who played along - Meaghan :)(http://leedublin.wordpress.com/)
I participated on Saturday. I don't know how many hours I wrote, but I wrote 5,834 words. I've exceeded my goal word count and have quite a bit more to write still before I type, "The End." I've written my climax and am now moving into resolving the main conflict of my book which peaked with that climax. Then there's one last little thing to write to set up some of the stuff that runs through the rest of the trilogy. I'm going to write more tomorrow but am unofficially done with WY@O weekend. Thanks for hosting, Moonrat!

The snowpocalypse, power blips, and kids at home made concentrated effort kind of impossible. Over Friday and saturday, I got in about 6 hours and 3,800 words. And a lot of editing. I'd hoped to bust through two pivotal scenes, but only got through 1.5.
But it was fun, and more than I would've otherwise.
Peace, Linda

I lied. I won't be writing on Monday because I wrote my @$$ off on Friday and Saturday and FINISHED!!! I sent my manuscript off to my agent and on Monday, I will be languishing (for a while), but I'll root for all of you!
I'm writing tomorrow. It will be early and late and in between to get in 8 hours, but I'm committed. Aiming for 30 pages.
I put in four hours and got about 2k done. Not the greatest for me, but much of it was editing, so that's why my count was so low. I may try to get in another thousand in tonight although not sure which WiP that will be for...
I couldn't make the sign-in work so there's no little balloon for me by the Thousand Islands.
But I assure you that today (Sunday) my wee behind has been on my office chair since 5 AM. It's now almost 5 PM and I'm taking a break.
Not a particularly high word count so far because I'm writing another Lillie story and the beginning has to be fiddled carefully.
I put in half my time yesterday, starting now to finish up my eight hours. I'm not used to writing on the weekend, too many distractions. Yesterday, I got waylaid by episodes of "Supernatural." So, so easily distracted am I.

A blog about the rapture, and the misery, of writing.
I'm gonna shoot for Monday, unless I'm allowed to divide my work up between all three days.
Don't know if it's quite legal, but real life intruded and I had to split up my hours over yesterday & today.
But... I added 3 chapters, revised the first 20 pages, worked on the query, created an outline & wrote a blog post. Whew! I officially worked my @ss off & it feels good!
Midnight approaches and I'm still writing. Thought I'd post my progress than continue for awhile. I've done some good work this weekend, though not as much as I'd hoped. Reviewing it, the scenes work, so quality over quantity, I guess. Write Your Ass Off Weekend was a blast, Moon Rat. Thanks!

Sunday: I added 1,362 words to my current novel and then printed out the 61 pages I have for later editing. Thanks for keeping such an informative blog.
I did it! Eight full hours logged in on Sunday. I spent the whole time revising a crappy first draft. Lots of scene rearranging, hair-pulling, and banging of head against desk. :)
Oh, and here's my blog! http://msforster.blogspot.com/
Did mine on Saturday -- well, also the previous Saturday, and the next... Weekday mornings are less for grinding and more for polishing my a** off. :)
My report from last Saturday is here. Which might be subtitled, "Sometimes the Muse Must Be Tricked."
I really did benefit -- a week or so ago I did a major reworking of the second part of my Not So Giant Fantasy Novel and I've been stuck in plotting hell ever since. This gave me the kick I needed to just write my way out of it instead of over-thinking.
PHEW! Write your ass off day was a success! Only spent about four to five hours (hardly an entire day) working, but I was able to revise/rewrite about 26 pages of a manuscript that has been giving me lots of trouble lately. HOORAY for WY@OD!
Thanks for a perfect Sunday! I never woulda thunk it would have flown by so fast and enjoyably. I logged my day and posted it to my blog:
http://blog.patrianoceu.org/2010/02/what-day-of-writing-can-do-to-person.html
Despite getting off to a slow start yesterday (thanks to the Jersey Shore marathon), I did manage to get a good amount of writing done! I wrote almost 2000 words on my current WIP, and I worked on assignments from the online writing class I'm taking (How to Think Sideways). Thank goodness my boyfriend was at a Superbowl party all night!
http://meghanwritesanovel.blogspot.com/
Worked Saturday and Sunday and finished 8k. Also came up with several new scenes.
https://calliejamesbooks.com
I wrote just under 4k! Of course, we spent quite a bit of time, uh, "taking short breaks" and "asking each other relevant questions" and so on. But it got me started, and that's exactly what I needed!
Sunday was my day, but I did a little tinkering around on Saturday too since I knew 8 hours in one go would be difficult to get schedule-wise. I'll probably write some more tonight to get me to those 8 hours. Thanks for this fun event!

Making the walk of shame to report my progress (or lack thereof) in my blog post:
http://pamalaknight.blogspot.com/2010/02/when-life-gets-in-way.html
Thanks for the motivation. I'll try again next weekend!
I wrote just shy of 10K between Saturday and Sunday. I'm really happy with how well I did - and I had a lot of fun having people over to my apartment to participate for in Saturday. ^_^
Whoops, I built a barbecue this last weekend and completely forgot. But the steak was awesome.
I did manage to get some editing of project X and plotting of project Y done, and then wrote my butt off Monday, so that's something I guess.
I wrote my @$$ off Saturday and Sunday. It felt good to accomplish so much. WYAOW should happen more often!
Monday was a great day to write WY@O. I feel like I am back on track with my story. Thanks for the idea to spend a whole day at it. Cheers!
After battling food poisoning and a broken tooth I managed to get my 8 hours in today! I wrote and posted an art review, revised another, as well as edited and reworked part of my thesis. Not as much as I wanted to do, but not too shabby considering the biological horror of a weekend.
Cheers and great job all!

Done! http://www.amberstults.com/?p=2230
Done! I had so much fun! I ended up having to split mine up, because my house is just crazy. I got in four hours yesterday and four hours today. You can see it here: http://crystalposey.blogspot.com/ But it's also cluttered with birthday stuff so I'm putting my results here :)
19 1/2 pages (roughly 5,200 words) Yay! With my goal being 3 pages a day, that is more than double what I'd normally do in two days. Very cool.
Wrote much, edited much and did research. The research was the best. I made snacks, grabbed a glass or two of champagne and settled in to watch a Discovery channel show about a major theme in my WIP. Wish *writing* was always like that ;o).
Monday was my day. I was snowed in here in Northern VA and got about 4,200 words of one of my novels-in-progress written. Whoo! :D
Spent yesterday writing my @ss off. It was great! I wrote several scenes for my novel, rearranged and finished (well, almost) the chapter I am currently working on, did some editing/revisions in previous chapters, read submissions for my writer's workshop and finally, attended my writer's workshop in the evening. I wish I could do this every Monday.
While my husband laid the slate in the bathroom and kitchen of our house-in-progress, I wrote my ass into what felt like a concrete block. I worked on my WIP Saturday from 11 am to 6 pm, and then 7-10 pm, and then again on Sunday from 10 am to 6 pm. Not a stellar word count, but the novel grew by a few nice solid scenes, and that's what counts for me.
Thanks for the much-needed kick in the ass! I plan to make weekends my WYAODs from now till the house is done - hopefully by our June 12 housewarming party. It would be great to send my agent a finished novel at the same time. :)
I'm sorry I missed this! I hope you'll do it again soon.
