Wheel of Time joke of the day
[This alas will probably only be funny to people who know both The Wheel of Time and my brother. But my sister and I laughed our tuchuses off.]
My brother [via text msg]: Guess what page [of PATH OF DAGGERS] I'm on.
YT: [thinking about it for a total of about 3 seconds, then texting back] 420
MB: Woah, you're good. How did you know?
YT: Does your sister know you or what?
MB: I guess so... Sometimes it seems like women can read minds... I wish I understood them as well as Rand or Perrin.

I recognize the 420 reference.
Well, that's my bro's sense of humor ;) so you won half the battle.
I don't get the 420 reference, but the idea of someone aspiring to understand women as well as Rand and Perrin -- possibly the biggest pair of clods in the history of fantasy literature -- is pretty funny. Heh.
You are correct, I neither know the reference, nor your family lol. Wheel of time is on my "to do" list though...
I must say the numbers are more appealing than the book. Or would have been at one time ;)
It's funny because the last bit is just one of the MANY things that are repeated so often throughout the book that it makes me want to tug my braid in anger!
I'm amazed when people don't get "420" references these days.
Is it maybe it's a generational thing?
I wonder if your brother's interpretation of R & P's ability to "understand women" is a male oversimplification based on the fact that they are involved with attractive, interesting women. Therefore they must understand them, duh! ;)
Whoa! Are we long lost sisters? This sounds like my brother.
Hah!
I bought my copy of the new book the other day. I've been hesitant to dive in, though, since I know it will occupy me for a while. *grin*
It is posts like this that have me teetering toward eventually reading the series. Someday, ratty. Someday...
Is your brother's name Mat? Because that would just make it funnier.
he wishes. his name is StinkyHead, but i just call him Weak-Willed Wetlander for short.
So are you reading / have you read the new one yet? I saw your discussion of going to the talk.
I got both, I think.
The 420 one is easy, I grew up in the 80s and 90s.
However, I took the second comment as an homage to each of the three male leads in the WoT constantly thinking that the others better understood women. It's something that always struck me as kind of overdone. Numerous times in the series I've wanted to grab Jordan and go "Dude! We get it! Guys don't get girls, but they think every other guy does!"
Love Jon's comment on tugging the braid! I spit out my coffee on reading this!
Men are such woolheads ;). LOL.
My favorite Wheel of Time joke that someone has as their tagline -
Elayne: "Egwene! Egwene! Come quick! Nynaeve's tugged her head off!
When I saw that I LOL'ed.
