what book(s) are you reading over Thanskgiving weekend?
(Sorry, UK friends, but take a day off in solidarity if you like!)
I'm bringing the following books to my parents':
-Gravity's Rainbow, Thomas Pynchon
-Path of Daggers, Robert Jordan
-Ash, Melinda Lo
-The Lottery, Shirley Jackson
(this isn't to say I'll finish all or any, but I'm sure I'll read at least part of some!)
How about you? Leave me comments!

Ooh, I was just trying to decide. I know Julian Barnes' Nothing to Be Frightened Of is on the list, and Fran Cannon Slayton's When the Whistle Blows. And then, if I can find a copy of Frances Hardinge's The Lost Conspiracy, I may read that, too.

I have family coming in, so my reading time will be limited, but I hope to finish The Journals of Lewis and Clark this weekend.
i'm working double shifts all weekend, so the only book in my hand will be the am ones you take orders in lol your books sound good though
Her Fearful Symmetry...just started it and can't put it down!
Wanted some light fare, so I have Julie and Julia (though I find reading a book after seeing the movie is even more difficult than the reverse) and Beach Trip by Cathy Holton (which so far is quite good but not as light as the title sounds). And of course my own WIP. For the 98th time.
I'm about midway through Jonathan Stange and Mr. Norrell. Next up is Miss Alice Merriwether's Long Lost Cakes & Further Arcane Inducements to Wonder.
Re: Shirley Jackson - last year I read We Have Always Lived at the Castle for the first time - great book.
Well, I'm bringing two books I've been trying to finish for months: Middlemarch (I know, I know - I'm on the last section!) and a graphic novel called My Inner Bimbo. I've also been reading the original illustrated text of Peter Pan, which has gone pretty quickly and I'll probably finish that easily. And then if I finish all of those, I'll have one more in reserve. I'm thinking Brave New World - if I finish that too, that will be THREE books off of my Fill in the Gaps list in one weekend! Goal!!
Karl Iglesias' Writing for Emotional Impact (a gem of a tip from a pro's blog that I've since lost in the haze). Plus I've got a Vines book and Tender Morsels, which has been giving me a rough ride so far.
Once I murder and dispose of the bodies of my 32 inlaws, OOPS did I say that out loud? I mean, once I've FED THEM AND SAID GOODBYE on Thanksgiving to them, I'll be reading:
Gravity's Rainbow
Wolf Hall
Shadowland
I might throw some Christine Sheehan in too, for research purposes. But if that if leads to pleasurable reading isn't really my fault then, is it?
Happy Thanksgiving!
I'm in the middle of The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart and have I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith on deck. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone!
I have THE MAZE RUNNER by James Dashner, THE HUNGER GAMES by Suzanne Collins, LISEY'S STORY by Stephen King, and a romance I bought at Walgreens (I'd tell you what it is, but I can't remember and it's in the car).
They will probably be read in that order. :)
I'm re-reading Stone's Fall by Ian Pears. Love the way he writes. Also working on Negotiating with the Dead by Margaret Atwood. Next up, an arc of Stardust by Joseph Kanon, though I might dip into some Alice Hoffman instead. The weather is gray and wet, and a little magic might be just the solution.
Theresa
I'll probably be finishing John Irving's newest book, Last Night in Twisted River, but I've got Nick Hornby's Juliet, Naked queued up after that.
I'll be back in Middlemarch for Thanksgiving--try to visit at least once a year!
Keetha: I love Jonathan Strange! :D Good choice!
I'm currently reading It Happened One Night by Lisa Dale, and loving it :).
Moonie, can you please tell us how ASH was when you finish? I'm excited about that one.
Gravity's Rainbow, by Thomas Pynchon (still way behind the schedule, but plugging along)
A Darkness Forged In Fire: Book One of the Iron Elves, by Chris Evans
The Last Will of Moira Leahy, by Therese Walsh
Yes, I'm reading all of those at the same time...and I do WRITE occasionally. *sarcasm* (You'd get the joke if you could see how flat my butt is from sitting in a chair all day long, typing.) I thrive on multi-tasking.
Quicksilver (Stephenson), Ulysses (Joyce - my favorite book), and Maigret et l'homme tout seul (Georges Simenon). Also Everything is Miscellaneous, assigned for one of my librarian classes.
I. Am. Reading. Gravity's. Rainbow. And nothing else, till I get the blasted thing finished.
I'm reading The Various Flavors of Coffee by Anthony Capella, Paper Towns by John Green, and Vision of White by Nora Roberts. I never know what mood I'm going to be in once I get where I'm going ...
I shouldn't read until I finish this stupid Nano project!!
But I will. I'll probably steal my dad's copy of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
Moonheart by Charles de Lint
Hooked by Les Edgerton
rereading history of love again. also need to reread the things they carried. after that, it'll be sons and other flammable objects.
Finally getting around to finishing The Shack.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Currently reading (and expect to finish this weekend) "The Renegade Hunter" by Lynsay Sands. I'm also reading "White Heat" by Cherry Adair. I hope I can find some time to read, but I'm also trying to find some time to write!
I keeeeeeeeeep meaning to finish The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. I got about a third of the way into it and got caught up in school so much that I haven't finished.

I have three books in progress and I'm determined to finish them ALL this weekend: Hogfather, The Lost Symbol, and Desert Solitaire.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater, War of the Flowers by Tad Williams, and maybe Mudbound by Hillary Jordan... can't. wait...
Nada. I'll be spending every free moment finishing my NaNo.
My main read right now is Homer's The Odyssey.
I'm also poking at -
The State of Jones about a Mississippi town that engaged in an insurrection against the Confederacy
Lavanderia - A Mixed Load of Women, Wash, and Words
The Two Kinds of Decay by Sarah Manguso (a memoir)
Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins Happy Thanksgiving MoonRat!
Great question!
I'm trying to finish up Hatchet before I go away on Friday. Then I'm going to take with me Ingrid Law's Savvy. As well as my computer for writing.
Happy Thanksgiving!
I just started "Pictures at a Revolution," a nonfiction book about the 1968 Academy Awards nominees, and their paths to production as the film industry underwent radical changes. I am, however, going to two Thanksgiving dinners, so my reading time might not be too plentiful.
I need to start and finish The Lost Symbol for book club. After all of the "I hate anything even a little related to Dan Brown" hype, I have to say that I'm still kinda looking forward to getting lost in it. Maybe I'm a sucker.
I can only choose one book for the weekend. I have three kids who should probably get bathed and fed at some point while they're out of school. Just sayin'...
I'm in a real Jane Austen mood, so I'm going to read some Jane Austen spinoff books (like BECOMING JANE)...not sure which one I'll start with first.
I'm in a Scandinavian mood: I just finished Per Petterson's In the Wake, so I'll be reading To Siberia next. Also have just got The Kindly Ones by Littell to start too (it's huge!!!). That should keep me busy.
As soon as I finish my reread of THE GLASS DRAGON (Irene Radford), I'll figure it out.
I've just started WOLF HALL and it's a big 'un, so I don't think I need to take a back up.
Happy Thanksgiving!
I'm going to finish reading Dzanc's Best of The Web 2009. Then I'll read the current issue of So To Speak, followed by 'Tis, the sequel to Angela's Ashes. Ahhh, long weekends . . .
The Lovely Bones. If I finish that book, then The Other Boleyn Girl will be next.
THE MAGICIANS by Lev Grossman
GOING BOVINE by Libba Bray and
MADAPPLE by Christina Meldrum are all on my T-Day weekend reading list. Dove into MAGICIANS first and it is absolutely fabulous so far!
Have a great weekend :)
Poetry for Dummies
A Primer of the Novel, David Madden
The Myth of Certainty, Daniel Taylor
Some Hemingway book or other...
Have a happy one, good lady.
As time permits, "The Livingroom Of The Dead", by Eric Stone.
dylan
Probably Bicycle Diaries by David Byrne and A Rumpole Christmas by John Mortimer, since I just got them from the library.
Orhan Pamuk's Museum of Innocence and Jandy Nelson's The Sky is Everywhere.
I'm reading When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead and after that, Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick.
Have a great Thanksgiving!
Shadow & Claw by Gene Wolfe. If, by some miracle, I finish that this weekend, I'll continue into Sword & Citadel.
I'm busy writing my own book (I'll let you borrow it, if you like):) and am reading a book I grabbed randomly off a library shelf (that's what happens when you take a four-year-old with you to the library) titled THE PAJAMA GIRLS OF LAMBERT SQUARE.
Luckily, the family is well aware of my book/reading addiction.
Not all understand it, but they accept it, and I am thankful that they do.
I will be finishing up Spooner by Pete Dexter and starting on American Pastoral by Philip Roth.
I'm reading 3 chapters from various authors that need critique help... hope they like constructive criticism!
:)
Sheesh. You just had to toss in that "(s)" to make us slackers feel especially slacky, didn't you???
I've been re-reading a book by one of my dad's old favorites, a humorist named H. Allen Smith. This one is called How to Write Without Knowing Nothing, ha!
I'm reading Nowhere Land by A.W. Hill. It's hard to put down.
Bonnie Jo Campbell's American Salvage. GOOD stuff.
The Lost, by Daniel Mendelsohn
I read Graceling, Candor, and The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate.
Love The Lottery (it is possible to love something so disturbing?).
Under the Dome by Stephen King.
Fabulous book by an excellent author. The story was intriguing and well written. I couldn't put it down and read the over 900 page book in 2 days. I'm already thinking of reading it all over again.
