Manhattan Bridge

Check out this beautiful video of one day (of elapsed time) watching the Manhattan Bridge. The guy who posted it called it "creepy," but I think it's stunning. (Yes, the bridge bows under the subway car weight... but is that surprising?)

Great video! I guess it's a bit unsettling to see the bridge do that, but really, isn't that what it's supposed to do? If it was completely solid and inflexible, it would be more likely to break, right?

Yep, I agree, sometimes it is better to bow than to break! It is a beautiful video although I kinda wanted to see the sunrise too!

Cool. I kept expecting the Cloverfield monster to appear.

This was pretty cool... the guy who thought it was 'creepy' probably should take a peek at what a suspension bridge does... :) I would rather it flex/bow than break!

I think we need to be as flexible in our lives as that bridge. Be strong, but give a little so the weight we bear doesn't break us. And I guess, the suspense is what will happen next...

very nice, carol. :)

Yep, a flexible bridge will stand long after an inflexible one drops in the river.

it's a little crazy how mesmerizing that is to watch...

Great video,
shame about the off-topic comments directly underneath on the youtube page. Oh my eyes!

An absolutely beautiful video and I'm so glad you shared it with us. At first, I thought it was a bit unsettling to see the bridge doing what it was designed to do, but then it's no weirder than what I do from time to time: Take the subway through earthquake faults along Wilshire Blvd. in L.A.
