just finished reading

The Fortune Cookie Chronicles, by Jennifer 8 Lee. My review here. Anyone else read it? Any thoughts?

Nice review, I added it to my list. I like kitschy (wrong word, but not really) stuff.

I admit I kinda skimmed the review because I am dying to read this book, and I didn't want to be swayed lol.

Sounds like such a creative, engaging read. Can't wait to read it :-)

Ooh, good review - now off to hunt down the book - and a prawn wafer...

I haven't read this book, but now I want to! Yum! There's a Chinese place about 1/2 mile from my house and when the wind is just right, we can smell it from the yard...makes the stomach rumble, mouth water.

It's an amazing book - I read it on vacation a few months ago and could hardly put it down. Lee has a terrific way of taking this topic in interesting (and well-researched) directions. One of my favorite lines: If apple pie is a symbol of America, ask yourself, when is the last time you had apple pie, and when is the last time you had Chinese food?

This month's Oprah mag has a nice little blurb about her and her hatred of her feet! Good read. I love the middle name 8.

It makes you really want to eat Chinese food. I found it a very interesting read for most of the way through. A few points in the latter half of the book really lost my attention, but overall, and interesting story about the development of Chinese food and Chinese culture in the United States.
