just finished reading

The Stone Diaries, by Carol Shields. My review here. Anyone else read it? Any thoughts?

I read this during college. I agree that it was a bit of work getting through it, but the story was compelling and there were certain passages that were so well-written that it almost hurt to read them. Is that poetic of me or what?

I read it a few years ago after a friend raved about it. If I'd bought it I would have taken it back to the store and demanded they give me not only my money back but the hours out of my life. To me the theme was "Life sucks and then you die." Hmm, guess you can tell I didn't like it. At all.

She is proof that you're never too old to tell a great story.

All I remember is that I found it profoundly annoying.
