I believe there was a certain member of the knighthood who made a song about just that phrase.

My daughter (a Smithie) is taking a J-term course in Yiddish at the National Yiddish Book Center (http://www.yiddishbookcenter.org/) in Amherst. She's loving it. I visited there once and thought was fascinating--and I'm a shiksa. (Is that in your book? Did I spell it correctly?)

Hi Moonrat,

I am that kind of woman. This is great.

I took my cue from you and am posting Ukrainian proverb of the week on my blog. It's fun.

Are you sitting on your toches relaxing or sitting on your toches hunched over a pile of manuscripts?

It's getting spooky-weird quiet around here, without Moonrat's regular posts -- which according to my own quick online search, would be "UMHEYMLEKH!" in Yiddish.

I think Moonie was abducted by aliens!

I've used the Dictionary of Popular Yiddish Words, Phrases, and Proverbs by Fred Kogos for my Bad Hair Day mystery series. Here's a good site, too: http://www.pass.to/glossary/Default.htm

I know that Moonrat is in England at a wedding. I assume no internet access.
