rewards for being dedicated!

Guess what!! I got my FIRST EVER book dedication today!

I've been acknowledged in lots of books before--ok, let's be honest; the only reason I'm as nice and agreeable and lovable and helpful an editor as I am is because I'm secretly hoping that EVERY SINGLE AUTHOR ACKNOWLEDGES ME!!! And hyperbolically.

But a dedication?! That was beyond my wildest dreams. I can die happy.

All right. Full disclosure. The book is a how-to on an unsavory subject and the author explained to me that her husband, agent, and friends have all forbidden her from dedicating it to them.

But hey! I'll take what I can get! (Gotta start somewhere.)

Ps. For any of you about to be published, this is something to keep in mind. Don't you ALL want to dedicate books to me? ;) Just kidding. I don't want to cause any divorces or family feuds.

A how-to on an unsavory subject?

The mind reels . . . .

What Dennis said.

In lieu of actual, y'know, publication, would it count if we dedicated a blog post to you? or would it have to be an entire blog*?

* Not counting Editorial Ass.

LOL! A dedication is a dedication!! Congratulations!!

I like JES's idea - dedicating a blog post to you would be a terrific idea!! :):)

If it meant getting my book published, ABSOLUTELY. Want my agent's number?

(Umm, just to clarify: KIDDING. Totally. I'm pretty sure you don't work with what I write. But if I ever write a how-to on an unsavory topic [which would most likely be how to clean up vomit and change diapers while staying sane] I am SO dedicating it to you.)

Ha! What's the book title? I will buy.
But I know you won't fall for my subtle ploy. Had to try.

You had your chance for a dedication my pretty, but no, oh no, you passed. I'm taking my submission and flouncing off, flouncing I say!

The mind boggles at what this topic could be. How to Cheat at Cards? How to Cheat on Your Spouse? How to Bribe Headwaiters for a Good Table?

Congrats though!

Well, I guess at least other writers will understand if I put 'dedicated to moonrat' in my dedication section, but maybe reader will wonder about my sanity. :)

Heh. Moonie, just give me your real name, publishing house and snail mail addy and I'll send you something. And when it gets published, I'll gladly dedicate it to ya! ;)

Truth is, I write sf/fantasy and you don't appear to represent that, lol.

congrats on a job well done, though.

If my book ever makes it across your desk I'll be sure to dedicate it to you!

I've already dedicated my novel to you and I don't even know who you are. I hope I guessed your name right.

I'd hope that most people are nice and would give a nod to those who gave them a helping hand...but maybe they'd rather thank their neighbours cat or something equally quirky. writers are a funny bunch!

That's cool. Congrats. I've had two books dedicated to me in part as a member of a writing group. It was kind of nice.

You deserve a least a blog post. Perhaps an entire blog!

Mazel Tov! That's fabu! Take me on as a client, and I'll dedicate every blasted word to you for the rest of my life (and in perpetuity).

You'll definitely get a nod in acknowledgements - I've earned oodles from you. Cuz it takes a village to publish a book. Peace, Linda

Word ver: ovention. I like that.
