one more for the Mischief!

Kelsey Timmerman, long-time Ed Ass reader, has his first book hit shelves today! Where Am I Wearing? is now available at a fine book retailer near you!

Kelsey, did you think you could lurk for this long and that I wouldn't catch on? Rookie mistakes. Also, can you resolve the controversy once and for all--is it in fact your headless torso on the cover? I know you've insisted it's not, but the rumors keep resurfacing.

I remember stumbling across this guy's website I-don't-know-how-long-ago, while the book was in progress I guess, and thinking it was a great idea. If the author shows up again, I wish he'd tell us one thing about his book's takehome message. For example: now that he knows what he knows about how and where clothes are made, is he dressing differently?

moonie, That is NOT my headless torso. Sorry. My biceps are somewhat smaller, but I think I have nicer toes.

Andromeda, your answer requires a bit more time than I have right now. I promise to post a response later this evening.

Congratulations Kelsey -- cool looking book, cool premise, and a cool site to back it up. (The story about the samurai-sword-wielding defender of a maiden's honor -- in the wilds of east central Indiana, yet -- was alone worth the price of admission.)

Thanks everyone. Great question Andromeda.

I didn’t come home and trash my whole wardrobe and replace it with clothes I could feel good about, if that’s what you mean. Like me, my wardrobe is a work in progress.

I’m experimenting with different ways of shopping. It’s been fun researching brands that I want to support. I use this little guide (http://www.betterworldshopper.com/book.html) to help guide my purchases. And just the other day I went on a little shopping spree at Goodwill. Did you know that you can buy a whole outfit and a book there for under ten bucks?

I’ve sent emails and placed phone calls both praising and condemning brands. I encouraged Patagonia to place the country of origin for the products on their website. A few weeks later they did. And I told Ecko jeans why I would never buy a pair of their jeans. Check this out – http://eckomfg.com/.

In the book I argue that we need to be engaged consumers. That’s what I’m trying to be. I don’t have all of the answers about what we should or should not buy. But after meeting Arifa, Nari, Ai, and all of the others, I now know why it’s important we seek them.
