where have you been, Moonrat...?

I don't even know myself. Whoever said August is a quiet month in publishing CLEARLY NEVER WORKED IN EDITORIAL. I have been so deep in work recently that I only have time to think of things I want to blog about, not to actually blog them.

Sorry for the recent neglect. Please don't think this means I don't love you.

OMG. Another editor here. I thought August had just been my own personal hellish month of deadline upon deadline. Am oddly comforted now, though I still want to know how the "publishing slows down in the summer" lie continues to perpetuate.

It's interesting to hear two editors tell us wannabe writers this. I've been hearing August is the slowest month in publishing from multiple sources - and then I read this.

What other misleading information have we been given???

Guess I'll just have to keep checking this blog to stay truly informed.

Luck on all the work. It's a crazy time for me as well with the start of school

How can it be the end of August? What happened to summer?

Our editorial department has been insane all summer. August has been particularly nasty!

Good luck on all the work, we'll wait patiently for you to catch your breath:)

Moonrat, we will wait with bated breath to hear how all those busy projects are turning into treasures. Now if I can only get my project on your desk ... hmmm.

Hugs Moonie.

Interesting. I stopped at an agents site a few days ago. I had stopped reading him or her a few months ago because the doom and gloom pronouncements were just too depressing. They announced it was so slow they wouldn't be blogging about anything writing related for a while until things picked up.

So, the editors and many of the other agents are covered up with work. Someone must be looking at something.

Music to my ears.

Ah, that's so sweet. It's interesting, though. I read a number of agent blogs and all of them have commented on how August as a slow month is no longer true for them. Methinks the August slow-down may have gone the way of the Dodo. You remember them, don't you? Big birds that couldn't fly but tasted just like chicken. They were on this island and they had never seen man before so they didn't run away and stood there while they got clubbed. Finally, there were no more Dodos. Guess there are no longer slow Augusts...they forgot to run away. But they taste just like chicken.

It sure feels slow when you are waiting to hear on things. :)

Maybe it depends on which side of the seat? I know a couple of agents are out on vacation right now and the occasional editor or two, but I think that's in the romance world. So who knows.

Sorry your August is sucking! :(

You don't love me.

Maybe you did once, but then you took up with those "published" writers. Now you doesn't even correct my grammar no more.

The bloom is off the rose. The honeymoon is over. Even cliches have failed us. Whatever we had is nothing but a memory hazed with booze, regret and inkstains.

Still, I'll be alright. Publish America loves me now. I know they love everyone, but I'm special.

Well, August is a "slow month" in a lot of professions... but really that is just code for "The big boss is taking vacation and all of his minions plan to clean up the messes that have been made over the last 11 months." No "new" work gets started but there is a scurry to finish up loose ends- makes for a very busy month for all except those at the very top and those who are waiting to get stuff back from others.
