Saturday morning classical music moment

I found this link yesterday. It's Itzhak Perlman playing the third movement of the Mendelssohn. When he was 13.

I heart you, Itzhak.

If you want more Itzhak, here's another great set of videos. He's playing my all-time favorite concerto, the Bruch. If you only have time for one movement, watch the 3rd.

1st movement
2nd movement
3rd movement

Happy Saturday!

Gee, I was taking violin lessons when I was 13!

I wasn't quite up to that standard, though.

I can't make a credible claim to play any instrument. (Although put a couple beers in my belly and a harmonica in my hand and I can do a "Polly-Wolly Doodle" nearly -- not quite, but nearly -- up to the Barrymore standard in You Can't Take It With You.)

All that said, one of the things I dearly miss about living in the NYC area is the live classical music at the little venues. ("Little"? All things are relative.) And yes, I know this was filmed at Orchard Hall in Tokyo... but it doesn't stop the envy of NYers -- at least on that score (ahem) -- from kicking in. Especially since it was POSTED by someone in the city! :)

Ah! I heart Itzhak! Saw him play with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra a few years ago, and he was brilliant. It's amazing to see a real virtuoso, like watching Yo-Yo Ma play. The passion in his face was so incredible and so inspiring! I love Def Leppard (yeah, I'm an '80s rock girl), but I couldn't live without classical music either. Thanks for sharing the links.

THANK YOU! And after I listened, YouTube led me to some of his Master Classes!! You know, I use YouTube so my students can see other kids play, but I never imagined searching for master classes!

I heart YouTube more and more every day!

Good find!

Itzhak playing the Mendelssohn and Tchaikovsky concertos was the first record I ever bought. I rather prefer the Tchaikovsky. And I have a thing for Heifetz playing that. But this was great.

Something else I can waste hours on YouTube with.....
