Midpoint Update!!

All right, kids. Several of us made personal writing goals at the beginning of June. It's time for a check-in. Are we on track?

I'll go first. I'm...not. In fact, the only thing I've done toward my goal was to spent five hours yesterday trudging through the whole thing as it exists and outlining what needs to be changed. I made myself a system with Post-Its so there is one Post-It to represent each of fifteen mini-projects within that need to be fixed, and the goal will be to rip one Post-It down every day between now and July 1.

Some of the Post-Its are going to be really tricky, though. With this in mind I might make a 3/4 check-in sometime next week!

That's actually a pretty good system you've got there, breaking it down into little chunks so as not to be freaked out by The Whole Thing. Always easier to plan climbing one Alp, then another, then another... rather than trying to conquer THE ALPS.

(On the other hand, consider that my mountain-climbing expertise pretty much consists of scaling the heights of South Jersey. Which left me exhausted.)

Sigh. I am not very far on my proposal, alas. There's lots of brainstorming and about 30 character sheets (it's an ambitious project) but my current project has needed more edits than I originally anticipated, so I'm still working on that.

How weird is it that we're at the midpoint of June already?

I'm 3 to 4 chapters away from finishing, so I think I might just make it. I love a deadline!

Finished the final edits on the bleeping novel and twiddling thumbs trying to figure out how to attack number 2. And marketing number 1. Sigh. It's dismal out there.

I like the post-it system. Might employ a similar thingy to parse out the attack on my new project. Peace, Linda

Hi Moonie,

I read, but didn't comment on your original post. The plan was to lay off of working on any full length fiction this June to spend time with the kiddies and clean up some short stories to submit... best laid plans, I've done two pitches for YA's and started on a women's fiction full... maybe I should tell myself not to write more often.

Nope. Same day I said I'd try to finish in June... work slammed me into the wall. Pulling 10-hour days will drain you mentally.

In fact, it's Sunday, Father's Day, and I'm at work right now.

New goal. I was going to take June off, but I got a 2nd revision request (2nd pass for same ed.). *eep! I started yesterday...and hope to be done by July 15.

No. I'm about 6% done and want to be 50% finished. Aargh. Love the post-it system.

Well, I've written 4 out of the 10 poems I promised myself I'd write... so I guess I'm on course. I did something similar with post-its. I was having a problem keeping the threads in a WIP from getting all tangled up in my head, so I wrote them in different colored post-its and then lined them up under each chapter. It made so much more sense once I did that. It made plotting so much easier.
