good news :)

Hi kids. Sorry I've been neglectful. I'm TOTALLY swamped with some really exciting projects right now. I do have a lot to catch up on, though. Some quick news:

Conduit has locked himself down a very excellent agent. Further evidence that this friendly blogging community is disproportionately talented. Congratulations, again and again!

I'll check back in later. In the meantime, let's pause and reflect on who here has had a major literary milestone in the last, say, year of blogging... who's been able to finish their first novel, has made substantial edits with the help of blog friends, has found an agent, locked down a book deal, won a prize, landed on a "best of" list, etc.

:)

What I remember most is your post at the start of 2008 - something about having the feeling that this year was going to rock.

Looks like you called it, girl!

This has been an amazing year for our blogging buddies! I say Josie and I are next! Course we both need to finish our WIPs first! ;o)

Congrats to Conduit! Woo!

One of my milestones this past year was finding an agent. I don't see how I could have done it without my blogger friends and inside-glimpse blogs like yours.

I can't wait to see everyone else's milestones.

It was about a year ago this time that I got an offer on my first novel. It's still in the works (no ISBN yet, sniff) but I'm still plenty excited.

Last month I got a new super agent, Rachel Vater. She's fabulous and I am SO excited to be working with her. To me that feels like a huge milestone. :)

Congrats to Conduit and others who snagged an agent this year! I signed with Stephanie Cabot of Gernert a few months ago and my first novel is currently under submission. It's an exciting but definitely nerve-wracking time!

Congrats to Conduit!

The past six months have brought me a fab agent and a three book deal with Orbit US. I also just accepted a preempt offer from a German pub. So, yeah, 2008 is going on record as one of my favorite years ever.

Between blogging and my mother moving in with me (on top of The Job That Ate My Life) I am doing less writing. It's better quality, though.

I am, essentially, the poster child for Josephine Damian's post about Scratching The Itch, in fact.

Thanks, everyone. :)

Maybe we should call this the Class of 2008? In fact, I think that'll make a good blog post in a couple of days, when the dust settles. A couple of us were more like late 2007, like Chris F Holm, but we could let them in the club anyway.

Hi Mz Moonrat,

You have some really nice blog friends and while I follow the book Book it was ot until today that I discovered your "EA". I'm just plugging on reading and telling my kids and friends about books that they probably wont read but I want to let them know they are out there (exception - my 12 year old grandson and my oldest daughter who seem to mind meld with me)
Be Well, Alan

*waves* I got an agent. Still thrilled about that, of course.

And thrilled for Conduit, too! There do seem to be a flurry of online people I know who are becoming agented; let's hope this particular disease keeps spreading!

I won a couple of free books, made a lot of friends and my book cover finished in the top ten on the P&E poll.

I know it pales in comparison to some of our blogging buddies, but I'm truly happy for them and hope to join the ranks soon! Hopefully I'll get an agent before the year is out! I just have to finish book number three.

I'm very new to the blogging thing and don't know y'all. Maybe I should't even be posting this. But I have to say how thrilled I am that y'all are getting contracts and agents and lots of good stuff. Theres so much bad news about the economy- and things are tight, no doubt about it. But I'm so glad that theres this good news.

I'm clearly an underachiever - but the year is young.

Way to go Conduit! That's HUGE!

My first manuscript Gumbo Ya Ya WON the 2007 ACFW Contemporary Fiction contest for unpublished authors in September. (Judged on opening 25 pages). I had a full manuscript request from a top agent who LOVED it...

Last month I discovered that my second manscript has made it to the top 5 of the 2008 ACFW Contemporary Fiction contest again! I entered this ROUGH piece with the sole expectation of just getting feedback from the 3 judges. I am highly encouraged!!
Thanks for the opportunity to remember the "good" that's happening in my life right now...

Blessings to you, Moonie!

Well, no real literary milestones yet (we're only in the 5th month), but Evil Editor awarded me a zombie cow.

Y'know, it's really hard to put a positive spin on that sentence...

You were so right, Moonrat. Almost exactly a year ago I started the novel that landed me my first publishing contract (I already had an agent.) So in the last year I have finished my best novel ever, sold four books, garnered some foreign rights sales that I'm not allowed to talk about yet ;), and received my first advance check. It has been a whirlwind of wonderful things.

Huge congrats to Conduit!!!!

I've been reading your blog for a short time, but this is my first time to comment. Thank you for all the good information. I'm so excited for everyone on their good news! It gives me hope. I've been blogging for less than a year, and it's really helped me focus on my writing more. I've written a first draft of a new novel, and I'm still working on it. I love the people I've met through blogging, though with a one-year-old, I don't get the chance to network as much as I would like.

It feels really nice to be surrounded by such a talented community.

I have learned soo much this past year. I'm hoping to put everything I've learned into practice. And hoping even more to have good news by the end of the year.

And duh!!! I didn't realize you were EA until somebody just mentioned it! I always think of you as Moonrat. :-)

Go Conduit!

And the rest of you talented folks here!

My achievements are not so glamorous, but I'm happy with them nevertheless, especially since I'm new to this schtick. I REALLY finished novel 1 and am beginning to shop it around (after a few false starts last year). Got some great agent encouragement at a conference, as well as a 'really good stuff' at an 'Editor Idol' session at Grub Street in Boston last month. Two of my writing buddies landed agents and/or publishers, two others are getting courted big time, and six of us finished critting our first novels through our online workshop.

A lot of hard writing done the past two years. Hoping 2009 is the year to reap the rewards.

But novel 2 beckons... Peace, Linda
