Words to Be Banished from American Publishing Forever
Robert the Publisher suggests "wit."
I could die happy if I never had to read any of the following in jacket or catalog copy again:
thrilling
riveting
graceful
tightly woven
luminous
lyrical
engrossing
enthralling
chilling
any other -ing adjective, really
Anyone else want to nominate any banishees?

How about compelling? It's a good word, but I think it's lost a little of it's original luster. :)
"gem" or "jewel-like"
"magical"
fascinating
titillating
scintillating
bewildering
ravishing
castrating
farting
Oh, sorry, what was the question again?
oh god
oh god
And why are you home on a Friday night in NYC? You should be out singing Karaoke or eating all that great wonderful food I can't get out in conservative land!
Seems to me wine labeling could do with some of the same discipline. I often think - what do they mean?
"exciting"
"fast-paced"
"romp"
I thought this was funny...book jackets can be as predictable as that gravelly-voiced man doing movie previews!
farcical
whimsical
"tightly woven" is so overused now, I would love to see it go. But of words you didn't list, I'd say "gripping" needs to go. "A gripping read" doesn't work and hasn't for a long time.
